22nd Annual Gardere MLK Jr. Oratory Competition

22nd Annual Gardere MLK Jr. Oratory Competition

Jan 02, 2018 Dr Kristina Nelson

If you’re looking for something different to do and want to celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King, consider attending the 22nd Annual Gardere MLK Jr. Oratory Competition. The finals for this competition take place on Friday, January 12 from 10 AM to 12:30 PM at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Christ in Houston. This year’s theme is “What is your dream for today’s world?” and poses several young students against each other to see who will be the oratory champion.

Celebrating MLK

Every year, Gardere hosts its MLK Jr. Oratory Competition in order to celebrate the life and teachings of Martin Luther King, and to urge youngsters to participate in his legacy. Gardere began the MLK Jr. Oratory Competition back in 1993, and has continued the tradition ever since to help motivate children to learn communication, writing, and oratory skills while also learning more about the importance of Martin Luther King.

Attending The Event

If you want to attend the 2018 finals to support this event and the children that will participate and give their speeches, then plan on coming on Friday, January 12th of this year. From 10AM to 12:30PM this event will be held at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Christ. You will be able to witness several school-age children giving three to five minute speeches to compete against each other while also celebrating the ideals of Martin Luther King.
