If you’re looking for some free holiday fun this year, why not check out the beautiful Patchogue Boat Parade, which is returning for its 24th yearly run on November 18th and November 19th. Known for its celebrated holiday parade demonstrating boats with gorgeous Christmas lights, the Patchogue Boat Parade offers plenty of fun for the whole family. Not only will you and your family get to enjoy the parade, but there will be plenty of restaurants to eat at near the waterfront, live music, and an appearance by Santa.
This year’s Patchogue Boat Parade theme is “A Country Christmas,” so you’ll get to witness breathtaking boats decorated in a multitude of beautiful Christmas lights, from one of many viewing points. You can watch the parade for free at Sandspit Park, Davis Park Ferry Terminal, Brightwood Street and Fire Island National SeaShore.
The Patchogue Boat parade started 24 years ago, discovered by Dick Blaksley of the Oar House, who wanted to bring something similar to the Ft. Lauderdale, Florida holiday boat parade to the city of New York. The Patchogue Boat Parade has been so popular throughout the decades it always attracts thousands of spectators.
Saturday night November 18th will be the “preview night” where you’ll get to preview the boats and vote for your favorite one, running from 5-9 PM. Also on Saturday night, there will be several preview parties held at the restaurants found on the waterfront area. On Sunday night, the parade starts at around 6 PM. Live music will also be available, and once Santa arrives on the last float, he will hand out candy and candy canes to children.
