On October 14th, The Essex County Turtle Back Zoo will host the Ales ‘N Tails Oktoberfest, a celebration of beer, bands, and animals that will raise money to benefit the Essex County Parks Foundation. At the event, a live Oompah Band will entertain you while you sample dozens of seasonal brews crafted by both local and international brewers. Several local craft and food vendors will also be present, offering you the opportunity to eat and shop.
Yes, you will be able to have some fun mingling with others and being able to be around cute animals at this event, but what is also very important is to realize that this event’s proceeds will go to help fund the Essex County Parks Foundation. This Foundation assists local activities and parks throughout the Essex County area. So, while you sample beer, enjoy live entertainment, and shop, you’ll also be making a valuable contribution to the local area.
The Essex County Turtle Back Zoo, the event promoters also hosting the event, operate the community zoo. During the event, certain areas of the zoo will be closed off to protect some of the animals that sleep at night. However, you will still get to experience some areas of the zoo, including the Reptile House and Touch Tank exhibits. Also, several other nocturnal animals will also be out for viewing, including penguins, bison, and prairie dogs. You can also hop on the zoo’s evening train, or enjoy its carousel ride.
Guests planning to attend the event must be at least twenty-one, and you do need to bring your ID with you to prove your age at the door. Ticket prices cost $60 per person for general admission, and $15 for designated drivers. To access the event, you do need to purchase your tickets ahead of time. All ticket sales are final, and the festival will take place regardless of the weather. If it does rain the day of the event, guests and vendors will be provided with an indoor/covered area for comfort.
