Attention All Movie Lovers, UCLA’s Dance Camera West Media Festival Takes Place This April

Attention All Movie Lovers, UCLA’s Dance Camera West Media Festival Takes Place This April

UCLA’s 16th annual Dance Camera West Media Festival returns to campus this Spring. Dedicated to encouraging and celebrating the effervescent art of dance around the world, this public event presents dance through both film and live performances. For sixteen years, Dance Camera West’s commitment for demonstrating the diversity of dance through various cultures continues, and this year the media festival takes place at the UCLS Fowler Museum, Glorya Kaufman Hall, and Royce Hall, from April 20-23. Dance Camera West plans to focus on documentaries, international shorts, live dance performances, and a family film day to demonstrate the beautiful art of dance.

What You Can Expect

The film festival presents dance through a variety of media, assuring performances that offer something for everyone to enjoy. The media festival will explore a variety of different types of dance, taking a close look at genres like modern, world, post modern, tap, ballet, dance theater, hip-hop, and cultural dance. The Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, The Los Angeles County Arts Commission, and the National Endowment for the Arts provide funding for the event. Other sponsors are CalArts, CAP UCLA, and the Fowler Museum.

Dance Camera West presents this media festival, encouraging people in the mainstream to develop a greater understanding and appreciation for the talent required to perform dance, and the visual language dance represents. The media festival hopes to inspire viewers’ imagination and alter the way most individuals approach dance.
