Storied Stone: Zimbabwe Shona Art

The Auburn Avenue Research Library, in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Gallery, will host Storied Stone: Zimbabwe Shona Art. This exhibition on loan from the Zimbabwe Gallery, and the collection of gallery owner Colin Thompson, features authentic Shona works created by contemporary sculptors who honor the cultural and artistic legacy of their ancestors via stone. Stone art produced from Zimbabwe are often called Shona sculpture, named after the largest tribe  historically engaged in sculpting from this region. Zimbabwe, derived from the Shona word dzimbadzamabwe, means ‘house of stone’.
