Slow Fish 2018 is a gathering of fishing and harvesting folks*, scientists, chefs, and advocates: all invested in truly sustainable seafood, ocean health and vitality, and growing awareness about our fishing communities. We're intentionally slowing down so we can swim together after the event.
This is an event intended to educate and activate, with representatives from across the industry (YOU!) who have worked tirelessly on the needs and desires of our fishing communities. We aim for attendees to discuss, inspire, and develop an action plan around growth and accountability across the sustainable seafood industry. We will be discussing eater guidelines, developing solutions, and sharing stories.
Slow Fish is the connection to the consumer and those that make fish choices every day. Our goal is to discuss how to communicate what's happening behind the scenes so eaters everywhere can make the best choice.
Come to be inspired, eat well, and meet new and old friends from around the world.

- Please consider DONATING. Every dollar counts we are building upon a movement that is in need of help. Ocean acidity due to climate change is having a daunting effect on our fishing communities in the Pacific region. We invite all stakeholders to reach out, commit to action, and together we can make positive changes for our most vulnerable communities and wildlife.
Bringing Slow Fish To Life
- Take action: Slow down with us to be with your extended community so we can take action together when we leave.
- Networking: We've incorporated plenty of time into Slow Fish for you to enjoy dinner with colleagues, break-out discussion with new and old friends, and lingering lunches with folks from around the world.
- Education: We're assembling an all-star group of leaders from across the fish industry. If you want to be involved and have an expertise to share, send a note to kelly@slowfoodsanfrancisco.com
- Community engagement: We're bringing a seafood-focused film to our community to close out the event. We've partnered with Airbnb to host the film and dinner, and invited their employees as well as the public to attend - growing our community is important to us!
- Fish & fun: We're kicking off with a chef throw-down at the Ferry Plaza Farmer's Market on Saturday April 14th from 12 to 1 p.m. for consumers and attendees alike. We've partnered with TwoxSea and Pacific Coast oyster farmers to bring a Welcoming Reception Oyster Party to life on Saturday evening, April 14th, from 4 to 6 p.m.. We'll also be showcasing fish from our fisherman during snacks and lunches throughout the event.
Slow Fish Mission: To grow our community of fishing and harvesting folks and their families, scientists, chefs, and all people who are concerned about the vitality of the ocean, delicious seafood, and our economy. To better understand what makes seafood good, clean, and fair.
*Note about Language: We have decided to use Fishing and Harvesting folks to invite a gender neutral vibe. We understand that all people, men, women, and families make our network strong and vibrant. Slow Food San Francisco and the Slow Fish 2018 committee would like to hold a dedicated discussion around language. Please feel free to contact us with ideas and your interest in helping facilitate this discussion.
