Rent at the Winspear Opera House

The fact that Rent first hit Broadway 20 years ago is a sobering thought, isn’t it? When it was first produced on the Great White Way in 1996, it was groundbreaking in its subject matter (the HIV/AIDS epidemic) and in its provocative ripples into pop culture, blazing trails for the future of musical theater. Without it, there would be no Hedwig or Hamilton or The Book of Mormon — and yet it really doesn’t seem like it’s the elder statesman of that bunch. Regardless, the now classic show has embarked on a 20th Anniversary Tour, taking its “Seasons of Love” to the entire country. Rent will be at the Winspear Opera House (2403 Flora St.) for performances beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20 and continuing through Sunday, Oct. 2. Shows will be Tuesdays through Thursdays at 7:30 p.m; Fridays at 8 p.m.; Saturdays at 2 and 8 p.m.; and Sundays at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $25 to $210 at attpac.org.
