Juana Pena Revisited @ The ONE Festival

Juana Peña Revisited written and performed by Alba Delia Hernandez and directed by Frank Perez - is a one woman show that brings to life the story of Juana Peña of the famous salsa by Hector Lavoe and Willie Colon, Juana Peña. In this play Juana Peña is given the agency to speak for herself and her experience. In the original salsa by Lavoe and Colon, Juana Peña is a stereotype of the bandolera y la sufrida. Juana Peña Revisited radically challenges that stereotype. In Juana Pena Revisited, Juana Peña rises from the ashes of male chauvinistic men. Juana Peña Revisited is an uplifting play that celebrates the strength of Latina women, speaks to gender diversity, sexual freedom, liberation and queer love.
