There are plenty of stories, movies and TV shows about what it’s like to work in an office and none of them are very happy. Well, some of them are but that’s only become the protagonist finds a way to escape their modern day chamber of horrors and find a sense of peace that can’t be achieved in a cubicle. Even if you happen to do a job that’s somewhat fun, it can still be the most dismal and dreary spot on the planet. Traditional office spaces feel like they were designed by psychological architects to suck every possible moment of joy and humanity out of the space it occupies. They all have that same, dull not-so-white but not-so-grey wall coloring, office chairs that can trap the soul of the minutes they take from their occupants’ time on Earth and short-walled cubicles that feel like easily escapable cages you somehow can’t escape. The office world created by playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ Pultizer Prize nominated play Gloria is the kind of office space that will make you run back to your workplace with your arms outstretched and a huge smile on your face. The office of a famous Manhattan magazine turns into a cutthroat killing floor as a group of aspiring writers and storytellers show just what they are willing to do to make it to the top of the office totem pole. See the carnage for yourself at the Studio Theatre at the AT&T Performing Arts Center at one of several performances at 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays and 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Ticket prices range between $40 and $99 at attpac.org.
