Storms are unpredictable. At times we see them coming, hiding in dark, rolling clouds that fill the horizon. If they come in the dead of the night, we don't see them, but we hear the booming thunder and driving rain. Think back to the worst storm you remember experiencing. Maybe you were in your room listening to it, or out in the woods hiking, or maybe driving through it. Think ab out the awesome power of nature and your sense of helplessness. What were your feelings throughout the storm?
Jesus and the disciples were crossing the Sea of Galilee. Some of them were fishermen and knew the lake well. They were used to being out on the water fishing, even throughout the night. They also knew about storms. It's difficult to know who was more scared when the wind and the waves got ugly; the fishermen who knew what was coming, or the landlubbers who had never seen such a storm before. The degree to which you can get "in the boat: with the disciples in this Bible passage will determine that impact it will have on your life.
