Mandala Arts presents a unique teen dance and music program that will ignite cross-cultural dialogue through dance and the changes we seek in our communities of Chicago and Aurora. Participants will take part in weekly virtual workshops featuring dance master classes - from renowned companies in Chicagoland - as well as community speakers and student-to-student dialogue.
The workshops will feature LatinX (Bomba dance and music), South Asian (Bharatanatyam dance) and Black American (House dance) artists and cultures, and weave them together through choreography. Through cultural exchange, artistic expression, and conversation, this program builds a safe space for teens to collectively navigate racial and cultural disparities in our communities.
Join us in February for six weekly one-hour workshops:Â
- Upper elementary students (ages 7-12) will register Mondays, February 1 through March 8 from 6:00-7:00pm.Â
- High schoolers will register Wednesdays, February 3 through March 10 from 5:00-6:00pm.Â
- Each student will receive a certificate of participation for completing the event.Â
All participants have the option of continuing after the six weeks to learn a routine to perform in early Fall at Mandala's annual production of "The Story of Ram".Â
This program is open to all students who attend Chicago or Aurora schools or are a member of an Aurora-based or Chicago-based youth organization. The cost of this program has been subsidized by the Healing Illinois Grant. Ask us more at info@mandalaarts.org
