Kigong & Tai Chi
Like Meridian Exercises, Kigong (also spelled Qigong, Chigung, or Chikyung) is an energy training method based on ancient Asian tradition that promotes body and mind and harmonious living through conscious concentration, movement, and breathing.
The principles underlying Kigong form the basis of tai chi, which was originally developed as a martial art and involved set forms of movement.
Tai Chi and Kigong are used to gather and circulate energy in the body and the external environment. Feeling and circulating energy is like learning to swim. Water buoyance is invisible and untouchable, but you can feel it and use it to float and swim freely. You feel and respond to the water, while at the same time, you are moving the water.
When you move naturally with the flow of energy, as in Dahnmu, and go deeper into that feeling, martial arts-like movements may naturally flow out of you. Tai Chi is a natural extension of being deeply in tune with the energy of life. These movements can be strong or gentle, quick or slow. Using slow movements, however, enables you to concentrate on the energy more precisely and profoundly. It is from such movements, and the various tai chi forms were developed. Most often, these are performed standing up.
By practicing Tai Chi, you develop the ability to move with energy flow throughout your daily life. This keeps the body in optimal health and vitality and the mind bright, positive, and peaceful. It makes it easier to distinguish thoughts, emotions, food, and other energies that can cause harm, letting you make healthier choices. The fresh energy constantly coming through the body cleanses it of imbalances and toxic energy to bring it to a harmonious state. The purpose of Kigong and Tai Chi in Body & Brain practice is to train the mind and body and become one with the flow of life and thereby benefit all life forms.
