Anton Rubinstein's 1875 opera tells the gripping story of a Demon's pursuit of Tamara, betrothed to Prince Sinodahl. A piano virtuoso, Anton Rubinstein was also a prolific composer who founded the Saint Petersburg Conservatory and taught composition to Tchaikovsky. Melodic motifs from The Demon inspired comparable motifs in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin and Mussogorsky's Khovanshchina. Presented "in concert" in Russian with English supertitles and sponsored with a generous gift from Walter and Alice Strine, Esqs.
