In this class, students will work with glass powders and frits in unconventional ways to create three-dimensional sculpture, objects and vessels. We will explore alternative mold materials, and work with stencils, kitchen tools, paper, and binders to create structures to apply the powders onto. We will include natural phenomena such as sedimentation, compression and foaming, as well as layering and burn-outs to shape the material. The only limit in this class will be our own imagination. The aim is to learn to observe the material and to link our observations to what we know about other things unrelated to glass. With the focus being on experimentation, the creation of finished and perfect objects will be secondary. Open to all experience levels.
