On Tuesday at 4 pm MST, we welcome Dana Spain with Volumetric Building Companies. She is a serial entrepreneur and philanthropist who gets her drive, passion, and dedication to her community from her parents. Dana was Director of Training and Communications at her family company, Spain’s Gifts/Dollar Express, until its sale in 2000 to Dollar Tree. In 2001, Dana became the COO and owner of Philadelphia Style Magazine, a brand she expanded to Washington, DC, and into three award-winning Websites. Dana sold Style in 2008, to a national publishing company.
Dana’s Spain Development Group is committed to revitalizing Philadelphia’s neighborhoods. Dana is the visionary behind the Fairmount @ Brewerytown. The transformation of the historic Acme Warehouse Distribution Center, into 237,000 square feet of mixed-use space, including 161 urban loft-style apartments, a restaurant, gym, and coffee shop. The Fairmount @ Brewerytown features the city’s first rooftop dog park and a pool with a skyline view. Concurrent to the Fairmount @ Brewerytown, Dana developed and sold 12 triplex modular buildings that feature a mural dedicated to the history of Brewing in Philadelphia.

Dana’s current projects include a 48 unit residential building in Scranton, and a 74 unit mixed-use building in Philadelphia, which will feature a co-living concept by The Quarters. Both buildings are modular construction and will have commissioned murals by the Mural Arts of Philadelphia.
Having discovered the benefits of building high-density modular projects, Dana joined Volumetric Building Companies (VBC) in January 2019, to help expand the reach of modular and to join forces with a leading visionary in the industry. VBC acquired its first modular factory in Hamlet, NC in 2019. Located in an Opportunity Zone, Dana created an OZ Fund of investors to acquire the factory and fund R & D for new technology and automation. Dana is working with VBC and 29+ modular factories nationwide on rapid housing solutions to address the Affordable and Supportive housing crisis in America.
