Woke Up Stand Up Brings You A Different Set of Comedy Headliners

For those of you who love stand-up comedy, it’s a great idea to experience a different take on headlining comedians. Not only can exploring a new variety of comics help you grasp different aspects of our culture, but trying different comics can also introduce you to novel styles of humor. Woke Up Stand Up, Chicago’s newest stand-up comedy showcase, aims to bring you comedy with a refreshing twist on headlining comedians.

Woke Up Stand Up’s Cultural Focus

Woke Up Stand Up is a comedy promotion and event planning team primarily run by people of color and women. After they started to create their show approach and started researching comedy events in Chicago, the group noticed something. Many venues in Chicago did not have many women, people of color, or LGBT individuals headlining local venues. If these shows did include any LGBT people, women, or people of color, it was a rare occasion. Typically if the headliners were LGBT, women, or people of color, they were a lesser-known comic that fell of out of the age demographic range of 18-34.

Woke Up Stand Up’s started its mission to change the stand-up comedy scene in Chicago. Wanting to offer a new set of headliners not commonly seen locally in Chicago, Woke Up Stand Up’s goal is to headline women, people of color, and members of the LBGT community performing stand-up comedy to vary up opportunities for local comedians.

Tickets

Events promoted by Woke Up Stand Up will typically take place at Cole’s Bar in Chicago. Woke Up Stand Up’s  show opens Thursday July 6, and is a 21 and over event. Tickets cost $10 per person per show.
