OIS OVERSIGHT Training

8 hr. Intensive OIS Oversight Certification

The Oversight Certification gives you the owner some quality assurance of delivery of specific supports.

Who is this certification for?
1. You work at, manage or own a provider agency; Homebased or otherwise
2. You are OIS certified at, at least a G level (Current)
3. You are confident in your understanding of the basic proactive and preventative concepts of OIS.
4. You are highly skilled or can reasonably acquire the Physical skills at a level  that you will be able to rehearse all the skills with all agency staff on a monthly basis who have a G level OIS Certification and or all C level OIS certification specific to PBSP guidelines. 

During this class you will get in-depth instruction regarding your agency-specific requirements. 
You will learn how to follow an ISP, PBSP and correctly complete an incident report.

The OIS Oversight Certification is for OIS certified staff 

to assist the OIS instructor or Independent Behavior Consultant to

monitor consistant delivery of the Oregon Intervention System

 to all agency staff within your agency on a monthly Basis for the next 12 months. 

The Oversight Certification is good for 1 year.

  • Qualifications to participate in an OIS Oversight Certification
  • Must have a current OIS Certification.
  • Confirm good understanding of OIS proactive and preventative concepts and philosophy
  • Demonstrate a high level of proficiency with O.I.S. physical skills
  • This 1 day intesive class is inteded for designated persons who will be ready to engage with the instructor, class mates and the learning material to gain a more indepth understanding of the OIS concepts, philosophy and physical skills. 
Once the "OIS Oversight Certification" is earned, the designated person should be able to provide the following:
  • Have a basic understanding of a PBSP
  • Be profecient in Agencies data collection system
  • Be proficient in writing an incident report

  • Be proficient in reading and understanding an incident report

  • Be able to instruct designated persons how to write a comprehensive incident report

  • Be able to Demonstrate a high level of proficiency with O.I.S. physical skills and be able to guide certified staff consistantly.

    •  Provide support to agency Designated Persons on O.I.S. Physical Skills techniques
    •  Conduct O.I.S. Protective Physical Intervention (PPI) practices with OIS certified employees
    • Work in conjuction with a certified OIS Instructor

Before you finalize this registration make sure that you or your staff will be able to attend the whole class with required documents.

Oversight Level Workshop (O) (Optional)

The Oversight Level workshop is designed to prepare Agency Designated Persons, as designated by the Agency, to assist the Agency O.I.S. Instructor, or an O.I.S. Instructor working as an Independent Behavior Professional, in monitoring and the application of the O.I.S. system within the agency.

The curriculum for the Oversight Level workshop consists of specific and in-depth training on core components in the O.I.S. curriculum, with an emphasis on how to avoid power struggles, communication, as well as core components of Positive Behavioral Support. The Oversight Level workshop also consists of comprehensive training on the O.I.S. Physical Skill Intervention techniques, including Deflections, Evasions, Covers, Escapes, Restrictive Measures, and all PPIs that are currently approved in specific PBSPs within the Agency. Additionally, the Oversight curriculum should address any Agency policies and procedures that affect the application and principles of O.I.S. and Positive Behavior Support.

The Oversight level of certification is not required! Agencies and O.I.S. Instructors may choose to utilize this level of certification to assist in the ongoing process of quality assurance and safe utilization of O.I.S. PPIs. Individuals trained to an Oversight Level of certification can conduct monthly rehearsals of O.I.S. Physical Skill Intervention techniques for those individuals who are currently certified to a General-Level or Crisis-Level. Support persons trained to an Oversight level certification may not teach O.I.S. physical techniques to employees not certified or trained in O.I.S.

The Oversight Level workshop is a six to eight (6-8) hour workshop in addition to the 16-hour workshop for support staff that is currently certified to the G and C-Level. An Oversight Level certification is valid for up to one (1) year. Any certified O.I.S. Instructor may train the Oversight level workshop. It is the agencies responsibility to monitor these standards..
