Looking forward to introducing my friends to our next Changemaker, Reena Esmail, on March 11th at 3 pm, Wentz Hall.
We will experience the music of the Chicago Sinfonietta as they present "Hear Me Roar", a concert that features the work of all women composers. We will be witnessing the World Premiere of Reena's composition titled#metoo.
Indian-American composer, Reena Esmail “creates richly melodic lines that imbue her music with the heights of lyricism, balanced by winning textural clarity.” (AAAL) A graduate of Juilliard and Yale School of Music, and a 2011-12 Fulbright grantee to India, Esmail’s work draws elements from both Western and Hindustani (North Indian) classical music. Esmail’s works have received honors from The American Academy of Arts and Letters and ASCAP, and have been performed throughout the United States, in India and abroad.
"To me, success means having a voice and having a platform where that voice can be heard. I want to use my voice to bring other important voices into the conversation – other women, other people of color, and people who are on the margins for one reason or another. That is what drives me: the ability to be in a position to truly facilitate the success of others." - Reena Esmail
The concert will be followed by a private dinner at The Indian Harvest Restaurant with Reena to talk about her passion for music. We will also be joined by Maestro Chen and CEO Jim Hirsch. There are only 35 spots available for this event. T For information about the restuarant, please visit http://www.napervilleindianharvest.com/ We will also be joined by Maestro Chen and CEO Jim Hirsch.
Women shape the world and their influence on symphonic music is far greater than the average classical music program might lend you to believe. In Hear Me Roar, we challenge the traditional image of the classical music composer (white, male…dead) and present the work of artists from all over the world and spanning nearly a century. More information about the concert can be found at http://www.chicagosinfonietta.org/
No refunds are available for this ticket but you are welcome to transfer your ticket if you are not able to attend. We will do our best to asign seats in groups. We only have around 35 seats so please purchase soon. The seats are all on the main floor (value $62). They will be released to the public if we do not claim them a week prior to the event.
Thank you to our sponsors for their continued support of the Changemakers Series.
