Meredith Ochs, the author of "Rock and Roll Woman-The Fiercest 50 Female Rockers" will do a chat and book signing (co-sponsored by the awesome River Road Books in Fair Haven) at Palette ArtSpace on Saturday, December 15th from 1:00pm-2:30pm. The event is free and open to the public.
Meredith Ochs is an award-winning broadcast journalist, author, deejay, musician, and longtime NPR commentator. She takes an insightful look at 50 rock icons who indelibly shook up the music scene, whether solo or in a band. Profiling women from the 1950s to today, and from multiple genres, Ochs tells the dramatic stories behind their journeys to success, their music, and their enduring impact.
More than 100 photographs make this a rich volume, and the idols include Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Grace Slick, Janis Joplin, Stevie Nicks, Heart, Chrissie Hynde, Patti Smith, Joan Jett and the Runaways, the Go-Go's, Karen O, Sleater-Kinney, Grace Potter, and more.
Her writing has appeared in numerous publications, including Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, and Salon.com, and she was a contributing editor at Guitar World. For more than a dozen years, she hosted a daily, nationwide talk radio show, interviewing thousands of musicians, actors, chefs, and other celebrities. In addition to Rock-and-Roll Woman, she is the author of several books, including The Bruce Springsteen Vault (Omnibus Press, 2015), Woman Walk the Line (University of Texas Press; 2017), and The Drummer: 100 Years of Rhythmic Power and Invention. She lives in Hoboken with her husband.
