Trinidadian descent, Shafeeha
Monae is the co-founder of Afro-Caribbean Connections alongside partner DJ
Kimani Rashad in Chicago, IL (USA). This Afro-Dance instructor has a
combined 27 years of dance experience from Ballet, Modern, Contemporary, Bachata,
Salsa and Dancehall. Over the last 7 years Shafeeha has pulled from her diverse
dance background, intense Semba and Kizomba training giving her Afro
House, Tarraxa and Urban Kiz a unique sensation.
Studying with native Angolans and
prominent Parisian instructors, Shafeeha has developed a
custom pedagogy helping students on all levels improve
their techniques, connection, musicality and ginga. She is grateful for
the opportunity to travel internationally sharing her passion for Afro
& Caribbean Rhythms and this shows through her dedication in
helping dancers reach their fullest potential. Her energy is strong
& infectious!
Baring her soul with every beat, Shafeeha's dancing
is a distinct blend of sensuality and weightless connection whether Semba,
Kizomba, Tarraxa or Urban Kiz. Training herself to lead AND follow has
helped shape her teaching style; focusing on smooth footwork, dynamic
body movement and of course musical flow! She also encourages women to push
their dance, learn to lead & have some fun dancing with each other!
For Shafeeha Monae, Kizomba is a personal
exchange with every encounter, more than just steps - it's a
lifestyle.
