Noeticus Addiction Counselor (CAC/LAC) Clinical Training Program Description:

The Center for Professional Development (CPD) at Noeticus Counseling Center and Training Institute® is delighted to offer a variety of professional trainings designed to meet the requirements set forth by the Colorado Office of Behavioral Health (OBH) and managed by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) for the Certified and/or Licensed Addiction Counselor credentials (CAC/LAC).

There are four levels of addiction counselor credentialing in Colorado and each is associated with a different level of training, experience, supervision, responsibility, and restriction. They are as follows:

  • Certified Addiction Counselor; Level One (CACI); Entry Practice Level
  • Certified Addiction Counselor; Level Two (CACII); Independent Practice Level
  • Certified Addiction Counselor; Level Three (CACIII); Supervisory Practice Level
  • Licensed Addiction Counselor; (LAC); Supervisory Practice Level with All Privileges of Licensure

OBH has identified two pathways by which to earn addiction counselor credentials in Colorado. Pathway 1 is typically reserved for individuals who have a high school diploma, GED, or baccalaureate degree. Individuals with a high school diploma or GED are only eligible to earn either the CACI or CACII credential. Individuals with a baccalaureate degree in the behavioral health sciences are eligible to earn a CACI, CACII, and CACIII. They may earn their CACI and CACII through a combination of clinically supervised work experience hours and OBH approved trainings. Individuals obtaining the CACII or CACIII must also provide proof of passing a national exam in addition to the previous requirements.

Individuals with advanced degrees are also eligible to use Pathway 1, however they are typically directed to Pathway 2. Pathway 2 is only for individuals who hold a clinical master's or doctoral degree. They may earn their CACII, CACIII, and/or LAC through a combination of clinically supervised work experience hours, OBH approved trainings (or approved college equivalents), and proof of passing a national exam.

The curriculum of the Noeticus Addiction Counselor Clinical Training Program (NACCTP) is primarily designed to provide the OBH required training for counselors utilizing Pathway 2. Thus the majority of attendees at our trainings have completed or are in the process of completing a clinical master's or doctoral degree. This does not preclude Pathway 1 individuals from taking our courses, but the curriculum is not designed to meet their training requirements.

All of our trainings are also pre-approved by NAADAC and NBCCfor continuing professional education and thus can be taken to meet licensure and certification renewal requirements beyond CAC and/or LAC credentialing as well as to stimulate and encourage ongoing professional learning and development.
