New York Times best-selling author of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, Rebecca Skloot leads a program that explores the world of science, cells and sleuthing at the new Marriott Marquis in Downtown Houston.
Houston Library Foundation’s community of philanthropists, library advocates, and bibliophiles as will go “Beyond the Page” to spark connection with issues that impact our existence.
“HeLa” cells contributed to the development of the Polio vaccine, treatments for cancers and viruses, and the impact of space travel on human cells. The use of HeLa cells sparked awareness of bioethics, yet few individuals know anything about the woman behind the cells — Henrietta Lacks.
Registration begins at 11am; Program begins at noon; exclusive author signing begins at 1pm.
