Before Hollywood raided comic book stories with a Sherman tank to come up with ideas for movies, fantasy literature was Hollywood’s go-to genre for filmmaking thanks to the insane success of Peter Jackson’s retelling of J.R.R. Tolkein’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. We didn’t just get more Hobbit films. We also got remakes of fantasy series that were only known to out-of-work English majors, such as The Golden Compass and the Narnia chronicles. The mirth-makers at Pocket Sandwich Theatre turned their satirical stink eye toward the original Tolkein story that started this runaway film trend and used it to produce one of their patented, popcorn-flinging spoofs in 2014 called Herbbits, Wizards and Borks — Oh My! and they are bringing it back for another run with performances at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 5:30 p.m. Sundays through Fridays until August 30th. The Pocket Sandwich Theatre is located at 5400 E. Mockingbird Lane. Call 214-821-1860 to reserve your seats at least 48 hours in advance. Tickets are $12 for Thursday shows, $20 for Friday shows, $25 for Saturday shows and $15 for Sunday shows. Visit pocketsandwich.com for more information.
