She is among the most successful female film stars in the history of Indian cinema. She is also a trained Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi and Odissi dancer. She has performed in many countries worldwide and has received international acclaim for her performances.

Durga is a dance ballet performed by Hema Malini and her group of 25 talented and exciting artists and production professionals. Hema Malini excels as Durga. Beautiful, fiery, and majestic. It is in the form of a humble offering to the Divine Mother and is an attempt to capture the passion and devotion that invariably accompanies Mother Worship. The subject matter of this choreography is based on the Charitas (Stories) from the Devi Mahatmaya and also from the common folklore of Sati, Parvati, and Durga, in that order. The music and Lyrics for the ballet is written and composed by Ravindra Jain and the ballet is choreographed by Bhushan Lakandri.
