Community. Communion between audience and performers. Inspiration, anticipation, spontaneity; SHARED transcendent moments. Do you miss these things? I sure do! The Virtual Dream Café (VDC) attempts to recreate this atmosphere, via Zoom, until live music venues are able to reopen.
The night after the election! Hopefully we'll be feeling celebratory. In "The Full Spectrum," all emotions are on the table: light, dark, funny, sad, hard, soft. VDC's guest performers, Noah Zacharin (Toronto) and Rebecca Jasso (Chicago), are both skilled guitarists with completely different styles. We will cover a wide gamut of styles and songs, and vivid imagery, as we share this wild ride with you.
About the Performers:
- Noah Zacharin is a widely acclaimed guitar master, multi-genre songwriter, and dynamic performer. He was given his first guitar at age 9, wrote his first song at 13, and began performing at 14. In December 2015, Zacharin became a full-time recording and touring musician, and is more thrilled than ever to be doing what he has always done. He’s recorded eight albums, has appeared on other musicians’ projects, and is a published poet as well. One must see him play live to understand that his sound all comes out of one guitar at the same time, and even then, it’s hard to believe. Born in Montreal, Zacharin splits his time between Toronto, the road, and an off-grid cabin on the Canadian Shield. https://www.noahsong.com/home
- Rebecca Jasso is a singer/songwriter who playfully writes around the themes of love, loneliness, and fantasy, skillfully weaving her melodies into the harmonic fabric of her fingerstyle guitar playing. She started playing guitar at age 10, and became a skillful player and songwriter; but she didn’t take to the stage until after college. For years she oscillated between playing solo and in bands, with each wave bringing her closer to chiseling out a style that became her very own.
Rebecca is also a visual artist, so it’s no surprise that her lyrics conjure strong imagery. From soft, autumnal landscapes, to dark, Narnian scenes, each song is a journey into a new story. Her honest voice and beautiful songs delight and charm her listeners. https://www.rebeccajasso.com/ - Chicago-based singer/songwriter Sue Fink enchants audiences with her whimsical perspective on the world, through her compelling songs and charming performances. Her genre, “urban campfire cabaret,” is folk with a hint of jazz, a large dollop of humor, and a drop of sadness for good measure. With a background in short-story and poetry writing, unlike Noah and Rebecca, it never occurred to Sue that she could write a song until much later in life. Then she had to learn to play guitar and sing. She's been sharing her songs onstage and via recordings ever since.
Sue performs solo, as CatBird (duo with Jane Godfrey), and as SongSisters (trio with Amy Dixon-Kolar and Patti Shaffner). As host of the Virtual Dream Café, Sue appears in the round with very talented performers whom she feels everyone should get to know. http://suefink.com/
About the show format:
- "In the round" means we each perform a song, one after another. Performers are inspired by each other's songs, and spontaneity abounds!
- This show runs from 7:30-8:30-ish pm (CST), approximately 1 hour... so, likely 3 to 4 rounds.
- "Doors open" at 7:15pm, so we can chat before the show begins. (Zoom is an interactive environment, where performers and audience can see and hear each other! Audience will be muted during the show, for sound clarity issues, but we can talk before and after the performance.)
- This will be an intentional show: we ask you to donate to reserve your seat, and then be present so we can share community. The show will NOT be recorded for later viewing. The intent is for us to share the magic together, in real time.
- Your generous $donation goes directly to these artists. Your donation also reserves your place in the "Zoom room," so to speak. We look forward to sharing music, and community, with you!
