Community. Communion between audience and performers. Inspiration, anticipation, spontaneity; SHARED transcendent moments. Do you miss these things? I sure do! The Virtual Dream Café (VDC) attempts to recreate this atmosphere, via Zoom, until live music venues are able to reopen.
This is VDC's inaugural show, and it promises to be amazing! "Amazing Things" is the name of one of VDC's favorite Megon McDonough songs. When we connect over Zoom and share our music and stories with you, and you share your energy with us, we will ALL do amazing things!
About the Performers:
- Megon McDonough is a nationally known singer-songwriter who has been performing around the country for more than four decades and has performed on stages as varied as Carnegie Hall, The Birchmere, The Wolf Trap and more. Best known as an inaugural member of The Four Bitchin’ Babes, Megon delights audiences with her mixture of heartfelt and humorous songs. She has 15 solo albums to her credit. Megon currently tours with her show “Dedicated to the Ones I Love: Great Women Singers of the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s,” a show that honors the greatest women singers of a generation, and performs entertainment for corporate workshops and events. http://www.megonmegon.com/
- Colorado-based singer-songwriter Edie Carey is known for her unmistakable, soulful voice, her intelligent, heart-grabbing songs, but perhaps most especially for her warm, engaging presence on – and off – stage. As much a part of her show as the music itself, Edie’s wry and often self-mocking humor makes audiences feel as though they have just spent an evening with a very close friend.
Edie has been singing at festivals, colleges, and listening rooms across the US, Canada and Europe since 1999, performing alongside Sara Bareilles, Brandi Carlile, Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett, and Shawn Mullins. She’s also been a featured artist on PRI’s Mountain Stage. She's appeared at the country's most prestigious folk festivals including Telluride Bluegrass, Rocky Mountain Folks, Newport Folk, 30A Songwriters, and Cayamo. She released her 9th album, "Paper Rings: 8 love stories," in February 2016. Her prior release, a duo lullabies project with Sarah Sample, garnered several children's music awards, including Best Children’s Album in the 2015 Independent Music Awards. https://ediecarey.com/ - Chicago-based singer/songwriter Sue Fink enchants audiences with her whimsical perspective on the world, through her compelling songs and charming performances. Her genre, “urban campfire cabaret,” is folk with a hint of jazz, a large dollop of humor, and a drop of sadness for good measure. Her songs receive airplay locally and nationally, including "The Midnight Special" (WFMT) and "Folk Festival" (Lilli Kuzma, WDCB); most recently, her “Alternate Universe” song was included in Episode 691 of This American Life (NPR).
Sue performs solo, as CatBird (duo with Jane Godfrey), and as SongSisters (trio with Amy Dixon-Kolar and Patti Shaffner). As host of the Virtual Dream Café, Sue appears in the round with very talented performers whom she feels everyone should get to know. http://suefink.com/
About the show format:
- "In the round" means we each perform a song, one after another. Performers are inspired by each other's songs, and spontaneity abounds!
- The show runs from 7:30-8:30pm, approximately 1 hour... so, likely 3 to 4 rounds.
- "Doors open" at 7:15pm (CST), so we can chat before the show begins. (Because we're using Zoom, performers and audience will be able to see and hear each other! Audience will be muted during the show, for sound clarity issues, but we can talk before and after the performance.)
- This will be an intentional show: we ask you to donate to reserve your seat, and then be present so we can share community. The show will NOT be recorded for later viewing. The intent is for us to share the magic together, in real time.
- Your generous $donation goes directly to these artists. Your donation also reserves your place in the "Zoom room," so to speak. We look forward to sharing music, and community, with you!
