The most wonderful word in the English language is inarguably the word “free.” Who doesn’t love free movies, pizza, and, most of all, music? Though you’d have to bring your own pizza, there will be (mostly) free concerts in Central Park this summer. Aptly dubbed SummerStage, this festival is from June 4 to September 23, 2016 at Rumsey Playfield. Most of the concerts are free and no tickets are required, but the space fills up quickly. It is suggested to arrive earlier rather than later and a good thing to note is that doors open an hour prior to the start of the show.
The concerts may be the most alluring part of SummerStage, but they’re not all that’s offered. In addition to the colossal lineup, there are other events such as dance parties, poetry readings, comedy shows, theater, ballet, and opera. Food and beverage stands will be inside the park, offering a variety of food, beer, wine, soda, and water; these stands will be cash only, so bring enough! For more information on prohibited items and other rules, you may consult the Central Park website. Here’s the SummerStage calendar for the rest of the summer:
