SR Socially Relevant™ Film Festival NY ’s 7th edition is scheduled to run March 16-22, 2020, opening at The Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center, closing at Cinema Village and running through a number of neighboring venues, Lang Auditorium - Hunter College CUNY, Baha'i Center, Lebanese American University, The Center for Remembering and Sharing


Highlights of SRFF 2020 include a panel at the UN NGO CSW 64th Parallel events Climate Change, Violence, the Environment and Women Paying the Price with the participation of distinguished panelists NYWIFT Executive Director Cynthia Lopez, Founder of Apne Aap Women Worldwide Ruchira Gupta, CSW 2020 Woman of Distinction Awardee Dayna Ash, and Founder of the Children of Panzi Cathleen de Kerchove.


The narrative films slate offers six titles, including Canada's 2020 Submission to the International Oscars ANTIGONE as the Opening Night film at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center, the documentary features slate has 10 titles, and 26 short films complete the balance of 42 highly select films on offer. Industry workshops, a script reading session for finalist scripts, panels and networking opportunities, not to forget parties and happy hours, make SRFF 2020 another unforgettable year.


SR Socially Relevant™ Film Festival New York, is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit film festival. It was founded in 2013 by actress/filmmaker Nora Armani as a response to the proliferation of violence and violent forms of storytelling, and to honor the memory of a violent attack against members of her family who lost their lives. 


The mission of SRFF is the promotion of films and filmmakers that deal with socially relevant film content. In its first six years, the festival has successfully served as a platform for 350 films from 35 countries, has offered industry panels covering such topics as distribution, storytelling, diversity casting, funding, marketing, low budget filmmaking, filming in New York, and scriptwriting, and has presented over 40 awards to deserving talented filmmakers from all over the world and has helped them reach larger audiences year after year. SRFF believes that positive social change can happen through the impact of Socially Relevant™ films on people.


Spokespersons and guests of SR Socially Relevant™ Film Festival NY include Amy Goodman of Democracy Now, Erin Brockovich, Martin Sheen, Pulitzer Prize and Tony award-winning writer Robert Schenkkan, prolific and best-selling French novelist Marc Levy, Academy Award Nominee and Emmy Award Winner Guy Davidi, American TV commentator and author Gretchen Carlson, and Liaison Officer of Tibet and the Dalai Lama, Kunga Tashi.
