The Lakeshore Roller Derby team is a 501 (c) (3) volunteer run non-profit. We follow the rules of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association, the national governing body for women’s amateur flat track roller derby. WFTDA is comprised of skater-owned and operated leagues nationwide that have united to lead this growing sport.

Our non-profit league is run by skaters, who contribute their free time and talents to manage the business side of the league — everything from organizing fundraising events to designing promotional materials. Lakeshore Roller Derby also maintains a strong sense of pride in our community by partnering with local charities and participating in local events. Our league’s vision is to promote athleticism, diversity and roller derby, and foster self-worth, personal strength and personal empowerment of all league members.

The people who make up the league come from all walks of life– they are engineers, architects, lawyers, teachers, nurses, writers, artists, librarians and work-at-home moms. They came to this sport as novice and experienced skaters, as seasoned athletes and as former couch potatoes. But they all have one thing in common– they are strong, fierce competitive athletes who are passionate about the sport of roller derby.

The Lakeshore Roller Derby team is growing quickly, with no salaried employees. The league will make revenue from ticket sales, merch sales, sponsorship contributions, and donations from supporters, and it all goes right back into the league. The cost of running a business is high. The cost of renting practice space  add up quickly. Then add game venue rentals, security, insurance, legal fees and other operational costs.

As a 501 (c) 3 non-profit charity, we rely heavily on contributions from the public as well as sponsors. Your tax-deductible donation helps us towards our mission of spreading the flat-track love at home and across the nation. Donations go towards helping teams travel for interstate games, conducting flat track derby bootcamps, maintaining daily operating expenses, insuring our skaters, and ultimately will enable the Lakeshore Roller Derby team to work toward our own venue. Your donation, no matter what the size, will make a difference!

LRD is always seeking new officials to support our league! Referees can start up at the next new skater start-up (referees must be on-skates), but NSOs (non-skating officials) may start at any time! Contact us today to get started!
