The vision of the Heralds of Hope Theater Company (HOH) is to create performing arts opportunities of social significance for culturally diverse populations.

Heralds of Hope Theater Company was founded in 2005 by Dorothy Phaire and Charles (Mickey) Daye as an outgrowth of their work at the Sharp Street United Methodist Church in Sandy Springs, Maryland.  It was subsequently incorporated in 2007 as a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization in the State of Maryland. The theater’s current offices are located in Laytonsville, Maryland, and the company operates under the oversight of a voluntary board and management team that includes President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.  Day-to-day activities of the theater are managed by a Chief Executive Officer: Alice Thomas, Ph.D. and the Artistic Director: Percy Thomas, Sc.D.

Heralds of Hope Theater believes that drama is a powerful medium for teaching and learning about the history and cultural nuances that are the foundation of African Americans.  To ensure that our productions tell not only the African American story, we partner with other ethnically diverse community theaters to share and bring together a world view.   With this ideology, the mission of Heralds of Hope Theater (HoH) is to sustain the tradition of community theater and contribute to its future viability and vitality.  We do so through …….

  • the production and presentation of outstanding theater;
  • the support, education, training and development of artists;
  • promoting and assisting new playwrights;
  • the growth of diverse audiences;
  • the promotion of values-based plays that depict contemporary real life issues and universal themes in society.

Heralds of Hope theater engages the community by offering a wide range of acting workshops focused on the basics of acting, movement, improvisation, and performance.  The workshops address the interest of children, teenagers, young adults and the fifty-five plus age groups.

  • While seeking to achieve our vision, we will strive to adhere to the following values:
  • We value the ensemble-oriented nature of theater;
  • We value the opportunity to train others in theater arts;
  • We value community relationships and partnerships;
  • We value the time, commitment, and talent of individuals in our community;
  • We value high quality performances;
  • We value financial stability.
