Jesus said that his followers would experience tough times. "If they hated me, they'll hate you too," he said. Being bold and "out there" about your faith is not easy, and it wasn't easy for the early Christians either. Their boldness landed them in some pretty hot water.
In the aftermath of Jesus' resurrection, the message about forgiveness and new life seemed unstoppable. Boldness bred popularity. But it also provoked a jealous backlash. The religious establishment in Jerusalem felt threatened by these brash Jesus-followers. So, they decided to try intimidation as a tactic to silence those most prominent in spreading the news about Jesus
