Adelina Fargas was born in Carolina Puerto Rico, and grew up in Canteras during the 1940’s and 50’s. She overcame this tough times and like many other Puerto Ricans, eventually migrated to New York in search of a dream… She landed in a war zone. Since the early migration of hispanics including Boricuas in the forties, Manhattan had evolved into becoming a place full of crime and despair. During the early 70’s Adela found a home amongst her brothers and sisters in what was baptized by the locals as Loisaida, The Lower East Side, and not only survived but thrived, and for thirty six years fought discrimination and gentrification, becoming a mother figure to the residents of Loisaida.
Today her restaurant; Casa Adela, is considered to be a landmark, a survivor of that era… The Last One Standing.
Marisol is based on a true story of a little girl from East LA who dreams of the perfect Quinceañera dress when her life
takes a drastic turn after an incident of domestic violence.
