The Dallas Festival of Ideas
Shaping the city and the future by igniting, uniting, and energizing the people of Dallas through the power of ideas. The 2017 Dallas Festival of Ideas with a focus on creating equity for all Dallas citizens. This year, the Dallas Festival of Ideas and the Dallas Book Festival will unite to focus the power of smart thinking on ways to make Dallas The Equitable City. As equity and growth take center stage, so does action. Community participation is strongly encouraged and welcomed as this platform seeks to have all voices heard. Admission to the Dallas Festival of Ideas and the Dallas Book Festival is free. Registration is now open and recommended. The Dallas Festival of Ideas is presented by The Dallas Institute of Humanities & Culture and The Dallas Morning News. The Dallas Book Festival is presented by the Dallas Public Library and Friends of the Dallas Public Library.
 

This year, the Festival has expanded with a partnership with the Dallas Book Festival to co-locate events in the Dallas Central Library and Dallas City Hall and Plaza. The Dallas Festival of Ideas responded to the July 7, 2016 Dallas ambush with a three-part forum entitled “Actions Speak Louder” with partner Faith in Texas. The spirit of “Actions Speak Louder” informs all aspects of the 2017 Dallas Festival of Ideas. Community forums from November 2016-March 2017 focus on issues of social equity from five different “City” perspectives — the Physical, Healthy, Cultural, Educated and Entrepreneurial — all leading up to and culminating in the Dallas Festival of Ideas in April 2017.

The Festival’s goal is to create a lasting, equitable impact for the city of Dallas and its citizens. This action serves as the Festival’s foundation -- and the lens through which Dallas’ citizens frame the city’s future.
