Special Thanks to Computer History Museum (CHM) for providing us the above timeline image. First Colossus operational at Bletchley Park

As our foremother, Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, stated in 1976, "Well-behaved women seldom make history." Cultural expectations are different for men and women. If you want to be successful, you have to learn how to communicate with "species" on another planet!

Women are raised to be nice and men to be right. Men don't like questions. Women do. The differences between men and women go on and on. However, our differences don't mean one sex or the other is better or smarter or more deserving. Like it or not - women need different strategies when working with men.

Join us in the month of April as Laura Mattingly, ALTOUR CIO, leads us by offering strategies, tips, and pointers on how women can successfully communicate in a maledominated culture.

Week #1: Conflict Management
4/14/2021, Wednesday @ 12-12:45 PM (EST)

Guest Speaker Katie Hutchinson KHIT Consulting

Navigating workplace conflict is important to have a peaceful environment that contributes to a positive culture. During this segment, you will learn:

-- How to stick to your guns and not back down on important issues.
-- How not to allow unresolved anger and resentment to damage an important relationship.
-- Ways to banish anger and frustration when dealing with difficult people.
-- How to stop people from taking advantage of you.

Week #2: Women & Everyday Negotiation Skills
4/21/2021, Wednesday @ 12-12:45 PM (EST)

Negotiations are not limited to bi-annual reviews where salary increases are at stake. Everyday, women can put negotiation skills into practice in meetings, brainstorming sessions with coworkers, presentations or even a simple introduction. Here, Laura will share her ideas on the following:

  • -- Did you know there is a difference between worth and value?
  • -- Learning and understanding the difference can enhance your ability to negotiate effectively.
  • -- Do you find yourself maintaining the workplace status quo?
  • -- The good news is there are things you can do to navigate away from intentional invisibility.
  • -- Self-promotion or let your work speak for itself?
  • -- You will learn that being successful is how you define it.

Week #3: Salary and Situational Navigation
4/28/2021, Wednesday @ 12-12:45 PM (EST)

Guest Speaker Julie Thomas with Beyond Publishing

According to Harvard Business Review, 20% of women in the workplace never negotiate at all. That's a lot of money left on the table. Join us this segment as we understand how to overcome the fear of negotiation, and learn:

  • -- How to prepare for a negotiation.
  • -- How to negotiate from a holistic approach.
  • -- How to negotiate with mindfulness.
