Improv and stand-up comedy workshop to empower female-identified participants, centering people of color, LGBTQIA, and marginalized groups. It will be co-led by Sheri Flanders of Second City and Kelsie Huff of the Kates. $15 per person will cover space rental and instructor pay. Space is limited.
Sheri Flanders is a writer, actor and comedian who teaches on the faculty of the Second City in the music department. Sheri is a monthly comedy columnist for the Chicago Defender newspaper, and a theater reviewer for PerformInk and Chicagoland Musical Theater publications. She is part of the interracial married sketch comedy duo Flanders, is head writer for Choice the Musical, and was a member of the Infinite Sundaes, the Second City’s Musical House Ensemble, creators of A Better Brother’s Grimm, a satirical musical. She has appeared in several theatrical productions including Rhinoceros at the Public House Theater and The Tempest with Shakespeare Miami. Sheri is a graduate of the Second City Conservatory and Music Programs, holds a BFA in Fashion Design from the Illinois Institute of Art. She has appeared in several commercials and is represented by NV Talent.
Kelsie Huff is a Columbia College Chicago graduate turned stand-up and storyteller. Kelsie performs at clubs all around the Midwest, as well as comedy and fringe festivals around the country. She is a regular guest on WCIU's The Jam, ABC’s Windy City LIVE, and WGN Radio. Huff has written four solo shows, is a short film and web series producer, screenwriter and voice over actor. Kelsie is also the creator of the kates and the kates U. the kates mission is to showcase talented and hilarious female-identified performers by creating inclusive and positive environments; which encourages artists to express their comic point of view in unique and non-apologetic ways - proving that women are equal in the eyes of comedy. Huff is also a fan of frosting and Cheese Whiz.
