How does a Nuyorican rapper end up living back in Puerto Rico? The answer lies within Sorta Rican, a comedy that weaves in her original Latin Hip Hop music to tell the story of an American woman from an immigrant family that wants to get in touch with her cultural roots. As she raps, sings and dances her way from Washington Heights all the way to Puerto Rico, she meets an eccentric cast of characters along the way that each show her a different dynamic of how to be Latina. But in the end, what she really learns is just how to be herself.
While Sorta Rican deals with the universal themes of identity, race, culture and immigration, the show also delves into Puerto Rico’s relationship with the USA - a hot button political topic since Hurricane María, the revolution that ousted governor Ricardo Roselló, and recent wave of earthquakes.
