More about The Can-Do Mindset:

Candace Parker, one of the most decorated and celebrated women’s basketball players of all time, reveals her own deeply inspiring journey and teaches readers how to live bravely, unapologetically, and with purpose.

On the basketball court, Candace Parker’s career has been the stuff of legends: from being selected as the No 1. overall pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks, to her champion career leading the Lady Vols to consecutive NCAA championships, to becoming the first player to earn WNBA MVP and Rookie of the Year honors in the same season. Yet while her impact on the WNBA is beyond measure, Candace’s story is even more inspiring off the court. A proud wife and mother of three, whose love story resonated with the LGBTQ+ community around the world, Candace is fiercely purpose-driven, paving the way for the WNBA’s rise in American culture, and for female basketballers to have the impact and platform that used to be reserved for the NBA.

Candace’s success didn’t happen by accident. From the start, she turned her childhood nickname, Can-Do, into a daily mantra that helped her overcome enormous physical and mental hurdles while embracing her vulnerability. Now in her first book, THE CAN-DO MINDSET, Candace breaks down the ultimate recipe for success, drawn from the experiences that made her a better person and player.

CAN-DO becomes an acronym to live by:

Learn from and lean on your Community

Show up as Authentically you

Realize that Negativity is a part of life

Embrace the excitement of the everyday Dash

And fight for Opportunity for yourself and others.

It’s how Candace has succeeded on the court and off, and it can help readers do so, too. Told through personal stories, THE CAN-DO MINDSET is for Candace’s countless fans who want to see behind the curtain of her meteoric career and life, and for all of us who could learn from an icon who lives bravely, unapologetically, and guided by purpose.

About the Author

As one of the most decorated women’s basketball players of all time, Candace Parker has already solidified herself as one of the most influential athletes of this generation. In 2008, Parker was selected as the No 1. overall pick in the WNBA draft by the Los Angeles Sparks, following a champion career at Tennessee where she led the Lady Vols to consecutive NCAA championships in 2007 and 2008. Parker went on to become the first player to earn WNBA MVP and Rookie of the Year honors in the same season, and was named Finals MVP after leading the Sparks to the 2016 WNBA title. After thirteen seasons with the Sparks and two seasons with her hometown Chicago Sky, where she won her second WNBA title in 2021, Parker signed with the Las Vegas Aces ahead of the 2023 WNBA season.

Throughout her career, Parker has built an outstanding honors list which includes two league MVP awards, six WNBA All-Star nods, the 2013 WNBA All-Star Game MVP, nine All-WNBA selections, and the 2020 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year award. Parker also led Team USA to gold medals in the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. And to top off her stellar 2021 championship run, Parker was voted the AP Female Athlete of the Year for the second time in her career.

Off the court, Parker was the first WNBA player to appear on the cover of an NBA 2K game, where she was the central athlete for the WNBA 25th Anniversary Special Edition. Parker and her thirteen-year-old daughter became co-owners of the Angel FC National Women’s Soccer League expansion team that began play in mid-2022. In 2019, Parker closed a multi-year deal to serve as an analyst and commentator for the NBA on TNT, NBA TV, and NCAA tournament coverage and is seen as a rising star in the broadcast world. In 2022, Parker launched her production company, Baby Hair Productions, with its first project Title IX: 37 Words that Changed America debuting on TBS. In September of 2020, Parker was the first woman to join the Social Change Fund, the mission of which is to invest in and support organizations that are working to liberate and advocate for BIPOC people and communities through the lens of policy solutions, community representation and narrative change.
