Highly Anticipated Venice Film Festival Lineup Announced: Include Ford, Gibson, Gyllenhaal, Gosling, Portman

The lineup for the 2016 Venice Film Festival was announced. The Venice Film Festival is considered an important stop in the journey along the awards season circuit. Films such as The Danish Girl, Spotlight, Anomalisa, Birdman and The Master have been screened at Venue before receiving major Oscar nominations/wins.

Venice Film Festival is the oldest film festival in the world and is on par with the Cannes Film Festival and the Berlin International Film Festival as the major film events in the world. The 73rd festival will be held from August 31st to September 10th.

The Golden Lion is the highest prize of the festival. New films from Natalie Portman, Terrence Malick, Ryan Gosling, Tom Ford, Amy Adams, Derek Cianfrance and more will be competing for the Golden Lion. Previous notable winners include The Wrestler, Brokeback Mountain, From Afar, Somewhere and more.

The opening film is La La Land, which will also premier at the Toronto International Film Festival stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. The closing film will be The Magnificent Seven, which also premiers at the Toronto International Film Festival.
