Nana Patekar's son Malhar Quits Acting, Takes up Directing
While most star children want to be in front of the camera, Nana Patekar's son Malhar has given up his acting aspirations and is now working as an assistant director.

Nana Patekar's son Malhar Quits Acting, Takes up Directing

A few months ago Bollywood reports had suggested that Malhar Patekar, actor Nana Patekar's son, was getting set to walk in his dad's shoes by debuting in Ram Gopal Varma's next film, which was based on the November 26, 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai. However, the young Patekar has now decided to give his acting dreams a rest, and pursue direction. Malhar, we hear is now assisting Ramu on the sets of the very same film, in which he was supposed to debut.

"I think this is the best way to learn filmmaking. As for acting, I do not know what the future holds for me. At the moment, I want to learn every aspect of filmmaking from direction to editing," Malhar revealed. Buzz is that two months ago, Ramu had offered Malhar a chance to make his acting debut in the sequel to his hit film Ab Tak Chappan, which is being directed by Malhar's father Nana. However, daddy was not too keen on casting his son in the film. Maybe they watched Mausam, which was directed by Pankaj Kapur and starred son Shahid Kapur!

Coming back to Malhar and Nana, buzz is that unlike other star kids Malhar is very shy and reserved. A well placed Bollywood source mentions, "Malhar shuns the publicity aspect that comes with being an actor. He does not like being photographed, so one does not know if he would ever want to become an actor. He is still young and is trying out new things, he definitely likes the technical aspects of movie making too. Malhar had always been interested in films but he did not know how his dad would react to it. It is only a few years ago that he mustered the courage to tell his father that he wanted to be a part of the film industry."

Reports suggest that in 2009, Malhar spoke to his dad for the first time about entering Hindi films. Reportedly, Nana had then decided to direct the film and even roped in his good friend Prakash Jha to produce the film. However, while Nana and Jha were working together in the film Rajneeti they clashed several times and the duo had a fall out thus crashing Malhar's debut dreams.

But it seems the youngster, for now, just wants to explore all his options. Malhar is not the only popular star child to shun acting, actress Hema Malini's younger daughter Aahana, who also does not like the spotlight, chose to assist Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the sets of Guzaarish. Reportedly Aahana has been getting a lot of acting offers but she has turned them all down.
